Drawing ER diagrams with TikZ

Abstract

The paper will illustrate some techniques to represent Entity-Relationship (ER) diagrams with TikZ. In particular, it will focus on the standard internal library \library{er}, on the external package TikZ-er2, on the external tool Graphviz and on the object-oriented approach provided by the er-oo library.

L'articolo illustrerà alcune tecniche per rappresentare i diagrammi Entità-Relazione (ER) con TikZ. In particolare si concentrerà sulla libreria standard interna er, sul pacchetto esterno TikZ-er2, sul programma esterno Graphviz e sull'approccio orientato agli oggetti fornito dalla libreria er-oo.

Sa-TikZ: a library to draw switching architectures

Abstract

The article illustrates how it is possible to draw some types of switching architectures in a simple manner. The Sa-TikZ library provides not only the keys devoted to the drawing part, but also the keys devoted to customize the aspect of the architectures in the spirit of the Tikz syntax.

L'articolo illustra come disegnare alcuni tipi di architetture di rete in modo semplice. La libreria Sa-TikZ definisce non soltanto chiavi per il disegno, ma anche per personalizzare l'aspetto delle architetture utilizzando come base la sintassi di Tikz.

Realizzazione di un layout complesso: la prima pagina de La Settimana Enigmistica

Realizzare una pagina dalla struttura complicata con LATEX coinvolge la sinergia di più pacchetti specializzati. Vediamo come usare TikZ, shapepar e textpos nel tentativo di realizzare parte della copertina di un vecchio numero de La Settimana Enigmistica.

Making a complex page layout with LATEX involves the usage of more than one specialized packages. We will see how to use TikZ, shapepa} and textpos while attempting to reproduce part of the cover of an old issue of La Settimana Enigmistica.

LATEX e le lingue romanze alpine: il friulano

Sommario

LATEX può gestire molte lingue, attualmente 74 più diverse varianti. Alcune delle lingue gestibili da LATEX sono usate da poche persone, altre da milioni. Questo articolo vorrebbe essere un altro passo verso l'estensione di LATEX alle lingue romanze usate nelle regioni alpine d'Europa. In questo secondo articolo sull'argomento si parla del friulano, parlato, letto e scritto da quasi 800 mila persone nel Nord Est d'Italia e nelle comunità friulane sparse per il mondo.

Abstract

LATEX is used to typeset in a variety of languages: at the time of writing, it can handle 74 different languages (plus many variants), some of them used by very few people, some by millions. At the moment, there are no facilities for typesetting documents in the various more or less official Alpine Romance languages. This paper would be another step in order to extend the LATEX language capabilities to the various romance languages that are being used by large communities in the European Alps. In this second article on the subject we deal with Friulan, spoken, read, an written by almost 800 thousand people in North-eastern Italy and within the Friulian communities around the world.

Le filigrane e le figure di sfondo

Il sistema TEX offre diversi pacchetti per inserire nei documenti filigrane o immagini di sfondo, ma ognuno di questi pacchetti ha le sue caratteristiche particolari che lo rendono utile in certe applicazioni più che in altre. In questo articolo si vuole esaminare a fondo il modo di introdurre queste decorazioni per comprenderne meglio il meccanismo.

Abstract

Our TEX system has several packages available for inserting watermarks or background images. But each one of these packages has specific features that make it more suitable in certain applications rather than others. In this article the mechanism for inserting such ``decorations'' is thoroughly examined so as to fully understand how it works.

LuajitTEX

LuajitTEX è una variante di LuaTEX che utilizza LuaJIT, un compilatore just-in-time per Lua. Vengono illustrati alcuni aspetti degli interpreti TEX, Lua e LuaJIT e vengono brevemente riferiti i primi risultati che evidenziano un guadagno medio del 25% del tempo di esecuzione.

Abstract

LuajitTEX is a LuaTEX version that uses LuaJIT, a just-in-time Lua compiler. This paper shows some aspects of TEX, Lua and LuaJIT interpreters and shortly reports early results that highlight how execution time speeds up by 25% on average.
